Yesterday was the 2nd annual Malbec in the City event at Castaway in Portland, Oregon. The purpose: to highlight Malbec from across the Pacific Northwest, but primarily Oregon while raising funds to support Our Legacy Harvested (OLH), an Oregon nonprofit dedicated to bringing diversity to the wine industry.
The event itself was well-organized and executed with a nice food spread, live music, and tango dance performances. The space was open, airy, bright, and bonus - had easy street parking! All told there were 20 producers and 42 wines (all Malbec).
With my spit cup tucked under one arm, writer’s bag strapped on the other, my branded Malbec in the City wine glass in my right hand, and phone, notebook and pen carefully balanced in my left, we managed to taste 18 wines from 7 producers in 90 minutes.
